Photography for Nature-Inspired Weddings

Weddings can be big and beautiful without losing that connection to nature. If you’re planning a celebration with more people but still want those desert views, mountain backdrops, or a chance to sneak away for a day-after adventure, you’re in the right place.

With over 150 elopements and intimate weddings in the books, I’m here to help keep the focus on what matters most. Whether you’re staying local or heading somewhere a little more remote, you’ll have solid support every step of the way.

Hi! I’m Shannon

A former project manager turned Southwest wedding photographer. I would love to be your Adventure Buddy.

I’m here to do more than take photos, I’m here to help you create a day that feels as incredible as it looks. From scouting jaw-dropping locations and sharing vendor recommendations to crafting timelines that catch that golden-hour magic, we’re building more than a wedding day; we’re creating art while putting your experience first. Whether it’s hiking a mountain, off-roading to a secret spot, or chasing sunsets, we’ll make memories as unique and extraordinary as your love story.

I specialize in the desert and mountain backdrops of Arizona, Colorado, Utah, and New Mexico, but I’m available for destination weddings worldwide.

The Process

Step 1

Book Your Discovery  Call

First, book a discovery call to connect and see how we click. Bring any questions or pressing stressors you have run into so far. This is a super laid-back call meant to get to know each other and leave you feeling with more answers than when you started.

Step 2

Secure Your Date

Did our call make you feel like we are the perfect fit? The next step is to secure your date on my calendar. I limit the number of weddings I take on each month to give each couple one on one planning assistance as needed.

Step 3

Craft your Day

Gone are the days when your wedding has to meet a cookie-cutter timeline. Want to wake up early to hike up to a cliffside for private vows just the two of you before the family portion of the day? Or maybe you dream of one more traditional day with your loved ones, followed by a day for just the two of you to enjoy sunset portraits out in nature. You CAN still include the outdoors even when having a larger guest count for your wedding.

Step 4

Enjoy your core memory wedding day!

When your wedding day arrives, I will be your photographer, hype woman, stalker-azee, and professional dress floofer so you get to live in the moment and enjoy your day together- I’ve got you!

“This is long overdue but Shannon was a dream photographer. She photographed my wedding. She’s more than just a person who snaps a photo. She was so helpful in all aspects of my wedding that I’m shocked she’s not a wedding planner! My husband and I are not ones to know how to pose for the photos. She told us to be natural and captured STUNNING photos. I’m so grateful to her and her team for capturing one my best days of my life. You won’t be upset if you hire her!”

~ Moira & Jake

“I don’t even know where to start with Shannon. Not only is she an amazing photographer she is just a wonderful person. Shannon made us feel so comfortable, it honestly felt like a friend was taking our photos. She was so patient with everyone being in her way and wanting a million pictures with us. She is encouraging and makes you feel beautiful even if you are like us and don’t care to be in front of the camera. She asked my husband to find his inner James Bond and did he ever! We’ve seen a sneak peek and the pictures are WOW – we cannot wait to see the rest. If you get the chance to work with Shannon you will be lucky🤍”

~ Carla & Cameron

“I don’t think any other photographer could capture the scenes that Shannon envisions. She is incredibly dedicated and scouted out locations around Lake City, Colorado ahead of time, even offering to bring a chainsaw if there were any downed trees between us and the shots we wanted. She is knowledgable, up for adventure, and incredibly kind. We couldn’t recommend her enough!”

~ Laura & David

What it looks like with me on your team:

You aren’t just another client if you choose to work with me. I’m fully invested in your experience. I will work to get to know you, what you value, and who you are as a couple, and then use that knowledge to artfully tell the story of your day.

How, you ask?

Before your wedding, we’ll connect over the phone or Zoom to dive into your story and uncover the parts of the day you’re most excited about—and even the ones you’d rather breeze past. I’ll craft a photography game plan tailored just for you, focusing on the experiences that matter most and ensuring your favorite memories are captured in a way that feels natural and true to who you are, all while leaving space for those candid moments with your loved ones.

That’s what I’m here for. I will ask questions and go over a customized timeline that fits what you are dreaming up. If you are still at the beginning stages of planning and unsure of portrait locations and activities, we can always begin with a smaller package and add on more time as we fill in the details.

This is a great question, because sometimes these two can have overlap depending on your specific needs.

Elopements and Micro-Weddings *may* have a venue for a portion of the day, but a limited guest list of 25-50 guests. The flow of the day is more laid back and there are less of the traditional timeline elements.

I book out 12-18 months in advance for prime months. But don’t let that scare you away from reaching out. Depending on my schedule, I have been able to squeeze in couple’s as soon as the same week in some cases.

Opting for adventurous nature portraits does not mean you have to hike a mountain! There are plenty of gorgeous gentle access locations available.

Sure is! You benefit from my spread-out family 🙂

I mostly work in Arizona and Utah from late September through May, then travel between family members’ land throughout Colorado and northern New Mexico during the summer months of June to early September.

I love an excuse to pop in for a visit anytime, so it’s always a win-win in my book!

I help with portrait location research, photo timeline creation/ coordination, vendor recommendations, packing lists, gear items, etc. I give guidance, but it’s up to you to contact your preferred vendors and book your travel. Because I’ll be focused on documenting your wedding, I can’t be the one providing “day-of” planning or assistance (like vendor coordination or dinner set-up). If you’ll need an extra set of hands, adding a wedding planner or day-of coordinator is recommended.

Believe me when I say this is the rule, not the exception.  Most people feel this way, including almost every couple you see on my site.

Don’t worry- I’ve got you.

The best way to get comfortable in front of my camera is to schedule an engagement session. But many of my couples are traveling, so this isn’t always possible.

During our pre-wedding meetings, we go through the type of images you are drawn to. Then, on your wedding day, I watch how you naturally interact and guide you with activities that bring out real emotions and connect you to each other. The joy and connection you feel for each other are what make great, flattering photos.

Absolutely!  As long as your venue allows them- I 100% want to meet (and photograph) them. If they are coming for your portraits in nature I highly recommend bringing a friend or family member to keep them occupied for photos they won’t be in.

I do not.
