A Summer Sunrise Sedona Elopement with Red Rocks and Creekside Celebration
Tiffany and Stuart knew early on that their summer elopement in Sedona would take some thoughtful planning. While summer is generally not advised for eloping with family due to the chance of high temperatures and monsoon storms, their July date was set by Stuart’s return from his work assignment overseas. So, we crafted a day that felt intentional without pushing through extreme heat by embracing an early wake-up call for a sunrise-centered day. When scheduling doesn’t allow an in-season date, sunrise offers cooler temperatures, softer light, and the kind of quiet that exists only before the desert wakes up.
Tiffany and Stuart’s elopement day began just as the sky was awash in soft purples and pinks, bringing out the deep, rich tones of the Sedona red rock. We walked down a short path where they shared a first look and exchanged private vows.
From there, we hiked out with their family to one of my favorite overlooks at Secret Slick Rock, with Cathedral Rock stretching across the distance. Laughing and getting ready with their family was followed by a breathtaking ceremony as the sun crested the horizon. The cooler sunrise temperatures meant everyone stayed comfortable, present, and able to actually enjoy the experience instead of racing the heat. After photos and time together, their family headed off to prepare for brunch while Tiffany and Stuart stayed back to celebrate and take epic nature portraits.
They pulled out their blanket and celebrated by popping champagne and cactus cupcakes. Then we explored the upper red rock area before heading to the creek. On the trail back, we found a unique weathered pine tree that looked like something straight out of an old western movie. We leaned into their southwestern attire and created some amazing old-west style portraits.

Next, we headed down to Crescent Moon Ranch. Shade from the trees, cool water flowing through the creek, and red rock reflections at Red Rock Crossing gave them a chance to slow down and reset. Shoes came off, sunglasses came out, and they cooled off by wading into the water and cracking open prickly-pear beers.
The day wrapped up at their Airbnb, where we met back up with family and friends to sign their license. Brunch was served, and I got to see the incredible southwest-inspired cake they would enjoy after dinner that night. It was an unrushed, clean ending to a well-planned day.
Tiffany and Stuart’s elopement shows how powerful it can be to work with the desert instead of against it. Early mornings, intentional pacing, and a sunrise ceremony made their summer Sedona experience feel effortless, grounded, and genuinely enjoyable.

Stuart and I cannot say enough good things about Shannon! She is a Sedona Expert and was incredibly helpful throughout our entire wedding process. Shannon helped us with everything from choosing the perfect location to ensuring every person who traveled out to Arizona to support us was included. She provided us with numerous amazing wedding locations to choose from and helped us pick the perfect one based on the best lighting for the time of day of our ceremony. Shannon was incredibly flexible with our scheduling and just made our day memorable. And the photos…..WOW. They turned out better than I could have ever imagined. We wanted epic wedding photos, which is hard not to get in Sedona, but I cannot stop looking at them. If you’re looking for a wedding photographer, Shannon is absolutely wonderful and I would recommend her a thousand times over!!
