Shannon Durazo- owner of Stratus Adventure Photography with her 3 rescue dogs in the forest

Hello! I’m

Shannon Durazo

A storm-chasing, cloud loving, trail-racing, adventure-seeking, peak-bagging, butterfly-stalking, dog-rescuing, world-travelling, boy-mom-ing, wife to a real life ninja…

and I would love to be YOUR Wedding Photographer!

I freaking love love!

Yes, I realize this sounds super cheesy and a bit cliché, but I truly love LOVE! I am forever grateful to be able to do what I do, spending my time helping couples celebrate one of the happiest moments of their lives.

I consider it a privilege and an honor to be tasked with documenting your story, and I take that responsibility very seriously- while still having a great time!

Stratus Adventure Photography is an unusual name for a wedding photographer, where does it come from?

Have you ever laid on your back, facing up at the clouds in the sky, imagining a whole other world full of adventure? From dragons in far off castles, to bunnies hopping through fields of flowers, the possibilities of what you see are limited only by your imagination! Dreaming up mythical worlds and epic adventures in the sky has been a favorite pastime of mine for as long as I can remember. When it came time to name my photography business, incorporating this limitless, free spirited way of looking at the world helps serve as a daily reminder that anything is possible. This is the same philosophy I encourage my couples to have for their wedding day- dream big, embrace the freedom to be yourself, and always remember- the sky is the limit!

Why I specialize in elopements & Free Spirited Weddings

As a little girl my imaginary dream wedding was running barefoot through wildflowers under a giant willow tree, the long, green strands swaying back and forth in the breeze.

Fast forward to….

…adult me attempting to plan a wedding that still felt true to me, but add in all the social pressure to include “all the things” your family and friends expect in a more traditional wedding. While I absolutely LOVED attending the big weddings of friends and family, for Rigo and me the expectations that came with the traditional weddings never felt like “us”. I stopped and restarted the planning process at least five times, putting it on the backburner for years out of sheer frustration. I was so turned off by the entire process that I put off marrying my best friend, my partner in life, the man I would face a literal apocalypse side by side with for over 7 years! The pressure is real, ya’ll!

Once I was finally able to let go of all the outside expectations, it was like a weight was lifted off my shoulders and I was completely FREE to be ME!

I knew that if my dreams of a windswept, free-spirited wedding could be drowned out by the noise of the people pleaser side of me, it could happen to anyone. I knew immediately that if I could help even one couple who was struggling to find that feeling, that it was a mission worth pursuing.

So, with the support of my amazing husband- I channeled my love and knowledge of the outdoors, my professional problem solving skills, together with my years of experience in nature and event photography, and set out on a quest to help change the social expectations of what a wedding “should” look like by showing what it “could” look like, one happy couple at a time!
